Progress update on Perdaman’s Karratha housing project
Tuesday, 6 May 2025
Perdaman Ceres Housing Fund Pty Ltd (“Perdaman”) acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Murujuga land, namely the Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Yaburara, Mardudhunera and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples, and pays our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging.
Perdaman is pleased to announce significant progress on Project Vesta, our dedicated housing initiative to support the operational workforce of our urea manufacturing project (Project Ceres), and advance housing solutions in Karratha.
Perdaman, working together with Timik Developments Pty Ltd and Thomas Building Pty Ltd, is on track to complete the first 31 homes by the end of this October. This will be followed by the next batch of 29 homes set to start construction in November 2025 and 40 homes scheduled for development in the third quarter of 2026.
Project Vesta aims to address the urgent need for accommodations in Karratha as we prepare for the operational phase of Project Ceres, which is set to commence in 2027. This housing development will not only provide comfortable living spaces for the urea project’s workforce but also stimulate the local economy by generating jobs, promoting local trades and supporting regional businesses.
Perdaman acknowledges the State Government for its ongoing support of our housing project, and Development WA for unlocking land opportunities in the Madigan Estate. Our collaboration with the State Government is pivotal as we work together to tackle the housing challenges with their vision to increase housing in regional areas such as the Pilbara.
We extend our gratitude to the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are building (the Ngarluma, Mardudhunera, Yaburara, Yindjibarndi, and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples), and look forward to continuing a collaborative working relationship with the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation and the five traditional custodial groups of the Burrup.
Premier Roger Cook commented on Perdaman’s housing project and his government’s vision for Western Australia’s regional development.
“My Government will never stop working to ensure every Western Australian has a home. I want everyone in the Pilbara to have access to local job opportunities, as well as essential infrastructure and services.
By building 100 homes for its local workforce in Karratha, Perdaman is not just improving housing supply in regional WA – it’s creating a pipeline of construction work for local builders and driving investment in the Pilbara. This supports our vision for creating jobs in regional WA, attracting new industries, and building homes for all Western Australians.”
Perdaman Chairman Vikas Rambal expressed a positive outlook on the development of the Karratha community and growth opportunities for the region.
“We are pleased with the progress being made on our housing project, as we move closer to the operational phase of the urea project. Project Vesta is intrinsically linked to this endeavour, providing homes for the highly skilled workforce that will be instrumental in the ongoing delivery of Project Ceres. We believe the successful execution of both projects will foster unprecedented growth opportunities for the Karratha community and beyond.
Perdaman values the vital support from the State Government in our vision to enhance Karratha’s housing and make it one of the most vibrant communities, as well as our commitment to developing a non-FIFO workforce who will integrate into and thrive in the local community.”
About Project Vesta
Project Vesta will see the construction of 100 houses in Karratha for the locally based operational workforce of Project Ceres, in addition to 15 properties for use as social housing by the State Government and the local community. The delivery of the project is undertaken by local building contractors Timik Developments Pty Ltd and Thomas Building Pty Ltd, with construction set to be completed in 2027.
Given the complexity of Project Ceres, Perdaman recognises the crucial need to assemble a diverse team of professionals that brings to our operation a wide range of expertise and perspectives. These new homes will not only allow this workforce to seamlessly integrate into a new professional and residential community but also spur significant growth in the Karratha region and support existing businesses.
Perdaman is committed to developing a non-FIFO workforce that settle in the region and participate in the local community. We believe Project Vesta will set an example for other industry leaders by demonstrating the far-reaching benefits of creating a harmonious workplace and living environment. We look forward to supporting the region with additional residential dwellings and related services to accommodate its ongoing growth over the lifetime of Project Ceres.
