Perdaman set to build over 100 new homes in Karratha for Project Ceres’s operational workforce and State social housing

Monday, 12 August 2024

Perdaman Ceres Housing Fund Pty Ltd (“Perdaman”) acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Murujuga land, namely the Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Yaburara, Mardudhunera and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples, and pays our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging.

Perdaman is pleased to announce that it has closed the financing of its Vesta Project, a c. A$122 million housing project that will see 100 new homes built in Karratha. Construction of the new facilities is planned to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The Vesta Project will provide housing for Project Ceres’s on-site operational staff, allowing them to live and participate in Karratha’s community. Perdaman is committed to facilitating the “non-FIFO Policy” desired by stakeholders and the local community, with this housing project offering 100 employees permanent homes for the life of the project. Project Ceres will launch with a non-FIFO operational workforce of roughly 150 locally based employees.

In addition to these 100 homes, the Vesta Project will work with the Cook Government to potentially build additional houses in support of the Government’s efforts to boost social and key worker housing in the region (subject to final negotiations).

Perdaman has acquired 15 titled lots from the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC), and additional 85 lots from Development WA. Perdaman is set to start construction on these titled lots by October 2024. We are proud to have established a collaborative working relationship with the five traditional custodial groups of the Burrup (the Ngarluma, Mardudhunera, Yaburara, Yindjibarndi, and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples) and look forward to continuing this relationship with MAC and the traditional owners of these lands.

The Vesta Project will be delivered in stages to ensure the smooth transition of the commissioning workforce as they become permanent members of the Karratha community. This delivery will be undertaken by local building contractors Timik Developments Pty Ltd and Thomas Building Pty Ltd, with construction set to be completed by June 2027. Perdaman looks forward to continuing its support of Karratha’s growth beyond the completion of this project, with additional houses planned for construction once operations of Project Ceres have commenced in 2027.

Perdaman Chairman Vikas Rambal shared his team’s pride and gratitude as they marked this significant milestone.

“By building these houses, we are providing a more harmonious workplace to our operational workforce while also benefiting the Karratha community by bringing such a highly skilled workforce to the region. This housing project is just one example of how we are investing in Karratha’s growth and potential, turning it into one of Western Australia’s most liveable cities. Increasing housing will reduce pressure on both the project workforce and the local rental housing market.

We are proud to be working with local contractors to build the next phase of Karratha’s growth, providing opportunities for the existing local workforce while also facilitating significant growth in the community. I will always be grateful to the people of Karratha for their support and vision, and it is for the love of this community that we have taken this next step.”

About the Vesta Project

The Vesta Project will see the construction of 100 houses in Karratha for the locally based operational workforce of Project Ceres, in addition to 15 properties for use as social housing by the State Government and the local community.

Given the complexity of Project Ceres, Perdaman recognises the crucial need to assemble a diverse team of professionals that brings to our operation a wide range of expertise and perspectives. These new homes will not only allow this workforce to seamlessly integrate into a new professional and residential community but also spur significant growth in the Karratha region and support existing businesses.

Perdaman is committed to developing a non-FIFO workforce that settle in the region and participate in the local community. We believe the Vesta Project will set an example for other industry leaders by demonstrating the far-reaching benefits of creating a harmonious workplace and living environment. We look forward to supporting the region with additional residential dwellings and related services to accommodate its ongoing growth over the lifetime of Project Ceres.
